This is it, the Apocalypse
DIRECTOR | BALAHAN GÜREL
2026, feature, in production
As you know in films, when aliens come to Earth, they always land in New York. But did you ever wonder what the other countries are doing while America is fighting with aliens and trying to save the world?
The world is falling apart, and one person doesn’t care. Roman is an ex-con, a nihilist who’s given up on the idea of a future. While everyone else clings desperately to whatever scraps of hope they can find, Roman finds peace in the emptiness of the city, letting the collapse wash over him. Families huddle together, but he prefers the silence. Until, he crosses paths with a Turkish-American scientist named Leyla.
Born in Germany, Leila (Leia) graduated from the astronomy department of an Ivy League School, shielded a deadpan melancholy while growing up and came to Izmir as a researcher. But when the alien invasion started in New York, the civil flights had been canceled all around the world and she was stuck in this Aegean town, not knowing what to do. That’s when she encounters Roman.
Roman agrees to help her to go back home, unaware of the secret she’s keeping. The day they spend far from the action before she leaves, make them feel things they don’t want to leave behind.
